A motorcycle clutch is designed to reliably and consistently deliver power from the engine through the transmission on-demand. Clutch plates are stacked inside of a motorcycle clutch basket in alternating layers of friction plates and drive plates which, when pressed together (upon release of the clutch lever), maximize contact surface area and friction in order to direct power to the transmission’s input shaft. A motorcycle clutch is considered a wear item and should be inspected and rebuilt at the appropriate service intervals. Signs of a worn and/or failing clutch can include lack of power delivery to the rear wheel (a “slipping” clutch), inconsistent engagement of the clutch during release of the clutch lever, and excessive chatter when the bike is idling in neutral.
Always check make/model compatibility with your motorcycle prior to placing your order, and don’t hesitate to call or chat with one of our gear geeks if you have any questions. While you’re rebuilding or upgrading your clutch, don’t forget to stock up on some high quality engine/transmission oil. You can also improve the feel and control of your stock or aftermarket clutch by upgrading your clutch lever.
